Vulture's EyeSo I'm still feeling ill, though perhaps a bit better than in recent days. I don't know now if what I'm currently feeling is a product of the infection I had, or the powerful antibiotics I'm having to take to treat it.
In any case, chills and fever, abdominal discomfort and slight disorientation do not make for very good conditions to feel like either working or spending lots of time writing on forums. But apart from the moments where I feel really exhausted and just want to lie on the couch and cover myself up and sleep, I have to have something to do. Watching TV is one solution; but another for me has been my old friend Nethack. Imagine my surprise when I was going to download the latest version when I found out that there's a new graphical version of nethack, even better than Falcon's Eye, which was already pretty good, called
Vulture's Eye.
Vulture's Eye is Nethack, with all the rules and complexity of Nethack, but featuring a really nice graphical (rather than ascii) interface. This makes it much easier to play, and pleasing for those who value graphics. If you haven't checked out Nethack yet, this is the time to do so. When you do, be sure to visit the www.nethack.de website and read the beginner's guides and hints (and spoilers, if you want), to get an idea of what all the options are for this game. There's many of them.

I prefer the standard tiles, they allow to see more of the dungeon without need for scrolling.
The only external extra that I use is Hearse: http://hearse.krollmark.com/
It automatically trades my bone files with that of others, so that a bone file is actually something to explore and find out, rather then "Oh, that is Ellora my orcish ranger, so that there must be the woodland elf lurking around who killed here. Need to grab her stuff, she had the cloak of displacement and a wand of magic missiles."
I'm curious if you've tried Dwarf Fortress http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/
Another great but humble game.
I did, but it didn't quite sit well with me.
